Best Dancefloor Filler
'Let's Dance To Joy Division'NME: Congrats! You're the first band to win this new award.Matthew 'Murph' Murphy, Vocals: "I know. It's ace. People have voted with their feet! We can't actually beleive it really. Well, we can actually, we're just really, really pissed. Do you want a drink? I've got loads on me."
Why do you think 'Let's Dance To Joy Division' has been so popular?Murph: "Well, it's the kind of tune that really, really leans towards supporting teenage drug abuse, which is quite dark really, but it's been worth it."
Tord Overland-Knudsen, Bass: "Not drug abuse, really, but alcohol's a drug right? So yeah, OK, then i know what you mean. So it's just been really supporting that."
How did you feel about the other bands nominated?Murph: "There were some shit bands like Bloc Party and Arctic Monkeys nominated right? We didn't think about that to be honest, because we're the best!"
Tord: "You know, we don't compete with anyone else apart from Phil Collins."
Murph: "And what about Cliff Richard - he had some great dancefloor fillers, you know?"
Tord: "He should get the Godlike Genius award! Maybe next year? Can you make that happen, NME?"
These are your first Shockwaves NME Awards. How are you liking it?Murph: "It's amazing! Where are the dancing girls? To the left of us are Franz Ferdinand, behind us are Muse and in front of us is Billy Bragg."
Are you looking forward to the NME Big Gig next?Murph: "Yes, we really want to see the Big Gig. We heared that Richey Manic's going to come back for it from Thailand. He's smoked enough opium and now he's ready to return!"
